Virtuosity in Action – Logistics Information

This page covers information about the venue, transportation as well as some nearby lodging and restaurant options. For full workshop information, please visit the main Virtuosity in Action page.

Our Venue

We’re hosting the intensive workshop sessions in Melinda Gallery of the beautiful and historic One King West Hotel and Residencies at 1 King St West, Toronto which is located on the corner of King St W and Yonge St.

Those interested in staying on property can book rooms and/or suites in the hotel (group code pending). While there are many benefits of staying on site, there are also several other hotels within a short walk of this venue if the rooms here do not meet your needs. Please see the alternative lodging section below for more options.

Transportation

Toronto has two airports, Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and a smaller airport for regional flights via Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTC). Most will come through Pearson. Taxi/rideshare from curbside to curbside is always available.

Pearson Airport to Venue: Catch the UP (Union/Pearson) Express train to Union Station (25min ride). From there you can walk, taxi/uber or take a bus. Walking: a 12 minute walk (850m) at street level, or 8m walk (500m) via the underground PATH system, to 1 King West. Bus: there is a bus option (the 19 or 97C) at Bay & Front, however the estimated transit time is 16m total. Taxi: Should be plenty of taxis out front and around Union Station on Front Street. Taxi fixed fare from Pearson to Union Station is $61 CAD / $44 USD and takes longer (30-40m) than the UP Express (25m). Details here.

Billy Bishop Airport to Venue: You will have to walk from Toronto Island where the airport is located (4m, 280m) to the transit stop for [509B Harbourfront towards Spadina Streetcar], then you may need to change Streetcars to the [509 Harbourfront to Union Station] and then a 6m, 500m walk to 1 King West. Details here. Taxi/rideshare from curbside to curbside is always available (approx. 12m drive).

While in Toronto: The tl;dr here is this is a very central location for downtown Toronto affording high flexibility via walking, bicycle rental, taxi/rideshare, bus, streetcar and subway. If it’s raining, the underground PATH system that connects much of the downtown core maximizes your comfort.

Details: The King Subway Station is right at the corner of 1 King West and accessible at street level or via PATH. The King Station serves the 1 (Yonge-University) Line and runs every 2-3 minutes during rush hour, and 4-5 during off-peak. First train at 5:59am, last train at 1:49am during weekdays. This line goes all the way from Vaughan Metropolitan Center, in Vaughan down through Toronto and up to Finch station in North York. TTC Schedule for 1 Line is here. King street is also home to streetcar service from Roncesvalles Ave to Parliament St.

UP (Union Pearson) Express costs $12.35 CAD / $9 USD per ride. TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) Single Fare is $3.35 CAD / $2.30 USD.

What is near by?

One of the benefits of our schedule is it is sandwiched between two weekends and Toronto is a world-class city, and the fourth largest in North America. Here are some things to see and do while you’re here in Toronto. Note: The period of our workshop falls in the range of time (late April to early May) when the Cherry Blossoms are usually in bloom at High Park!
